So not very useful. I copied the System Folder from the CD onto the hard disk, and told the classic applette to boot it, and it updated some system files, and then gave me this fine message:.

After mounting the read only image, it booted! After the install you can eject the CD, unmount the read-only copy and tell the classic to stop and then boot from the new installed copy of OS 9 on the OS X disk.
So to recap, copy the system folder from the CD onto read-write media, and let classic update it. Move it to a read-only disk image and have classic boot from that, and then run the OS 9 installer to install itself to whatever target disk you need or want. So here we go.

If you have access to titanium on another Mac, try that route. Sun Jul 12, 7: Joined Thu Nov 26, 6: Sun Jul 12, 6: Joined Fri Sep 07, 5: Also, Disk Utility will not work because it tries to update the driver partition with a version of the boot driver that only works with OSX, and Yosemite Disk Utility can't handle the partition in any way.

Why would the ISO need recreating? I would also rather use free programs.

Oh yes, because you are trying to make the ISO compatible with a system that only supports that type of image. I also tried Disk Utility in Yosemite and it starts to boot, but it ends up with a floppy disk with a blinking question mark this one also looks fine in Finder.
There is a mouse cursor at this point however, so it finds the CD, but fails during the boot process for some reason.
